About Telkom 10X Hackathon Series

The FutureMakers programme affords black-owned micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) an opportunity to develop their business-focused ideas, gain market access, sharpen their skills and scale up.

To celebrate its 10th year anniversary, Telkom FutureMakers will host a national hackathon in partnership with Telkom Learn and the Telkom COEs, to ignite entrepreneurship and fostering innovation within Telkom’s value chain. This event will be held on multiple days from August to September 2025, bringing together aspiring young coders, developers, and tech enthusiasts from across South Africa to innovate and solve real-world problems, fostering a community innovative tech leaders.

Building Enhanced Customer Experiences for End-Users

Participants are challenge to build applications that are customer phasing (for any business process or service), and innovative on Customer Expriences.

Hackathon Participation Rules

Get Counted

1 Register & Profile

Everyone in the team must register and then one member must profile your team's project of interest - this is one of the key requirements.


Learn for Growth

2 Finish 3 Courses

It is a key requirement that all team members have completed at 3 courses through Telkom Learn.


Proof of Completion

3 Submit Certificates

Through Sonke, submit certficates of all team members in your team space, at least 5 days before the hackathon date.

25 July 2025
Registration and profiling of teams officially opens for the hackathon in the different provinces.
5 Days Before
Registration will close 5 days before occurence of each hackathon location
1 Day Before
The Telkom 10-X Business Breakfast events will be hosted in the different provinces
21 September 2025
The Telkom 10X Hackathons will conclude on 21 September and set preparation for the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon.
22 September 2025
Finalisation of all bookings for the teams selected from all the different provinces across the country.
24 September 2025
Final hackathon briefing ahead of the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon, hosted virtually.
26 - 28 September 2025
The Geekulcha Annual Hackathon will take place in South Africa, Kenya and Virtually.
29 September & Beyond
Post-hackathon support mechanism for top solutions from the hackathon.
November 2025
Telkom Digital Transformation Awards hosted with best teams from these hackathons standing for 2 awards.

To whom does the Intellectual Property(IP) belong?

To the team that is developing the solution keep the rights. You are urged not to infringe on the rights of others.

Will there be transport to the hackathon venue?

No, transport will not be provided for to the provincial hackathon venue but winning teams form different provinces will be supported with travels.

Will food be provided for?

Yes. Meals, refreshments, water and coffee will be provided for throughout the hackathon.

Is necessary to be in a team?

You are allowed to work alone.

Can I work on an existing solution?

Yes but you will need to work on at least one feature during the hackathon.

Why Attend The Telkom 10X Hackathon


Prizes up for grabs with R15 000.00 first place, R10 000.00 second place and R5 000.00 3rd place. Members of 1st place get to attend the annual hackathon.
