AI Literacy Community Upskill Day

The UNISA Community Upskill Day: AI Literacy Skills Retreat is a practical, one day, interactive learning programme designed to empower women with foundational and applied AI knowledge. The programme combines expert-led knowledge sessions, career development discussions, and hands-on labs to provide participants with both theoretical understanding and practical experience in using AI tools, data, cybersecurity principles, and emerging technologies.

Proudly brought to you by UNISA College of Science, Engineering & Technology and Geekulcha, this event will favour a higher female participation in need to build up more capacity.

Through a blend of hands-on knowledge sessions, career guidance sessions and knowledge labs, participants will explore how AI can be used ethically in professional environments, community development initiatives, and innovation projects.

The retreat aims to inspire confidence, strengthen digital competencies, and expose participants to meaningful pathways into technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and public sector digital transformation.

THE HOW
How it will take place

The event will be hosted through enlightenment and hands-on interactive application against the sessions delivered by the presenters on the day of the event. During the event, you will need to share insights / take-out via Sonke as we need to get a sense on how you will apply the knowledge.

NB: Participation selection may apply. Certificates will be provided.

Do I need to have a high level background

No, not at all. This is a learning event and it does not matter which level you are in as it also seeks to boost / channel up local capacity in the field.

Is this a hackathon

It is NOT a hackathon but a hands-on learning and development pathways channel to ensure drive greater change in society.

Will food be served?

Yes, breakfast and lunch and will be served throughout out the event.

Will there be prizes?

Spot prizes may be given throughout the event on the day of the programme.

What do I need to prepare?

Just you laptop is sufficient and since is an end-user centered event for development, you will learn against your journey.
